The demonstration against
'viviendas ilegales' in Málaga City went well today, I'm told (I couldn't go). Imagine a large collection of angry Brit home-owners (in carpet slippers), sick of the fraud, scams and corruption, interrupting the traffic. El Mundo covers it with a story and a video
here and Diario Sur (the Málaga daily) covers it
here (with lots of comments, not all generous and positive, from the readers). Marta Andreasen, the UKIP MEP who fired a shot across Zapatero's bows at the opening of the Spanish presidency of the EU in January, gave a speech and said that she would do everything in her power to cut EU funding to Spain while this iniquitous situation continued.
Press reports claim that there are 50,000 illegal homes in Málaga and 100,000 in Andalucía (Diario Sur). Around 1,000 protestors filled the streets today.
Typically Spanish - '1,000 foreigners march in Málaga against the demolition of their homes'.
Daily Mail - 'Hundreds of British expats stage march in Malaga over plans to demolish 'illegal' holiday homes'.

La Opinion de Málaga.
Later: Juan Espadas, the Junta's property and planning tsar, has said that the British property-owners should
not attempt to pressure the Junta de Andalucía. Espadas is now in favour of a 'case by case' approach (which, with 100,000 irregular homes in Andalucía, should keep him busy for a while) and asks for 'tranquility and patience'. Lots and lots and lots of patience.
Meanwhile - don't buy in Andalucía; and if you own a 'vivienda ilegal' or sympathise with those who do, then keep the pressure on. Don't forget, Espadas has just signed a new 'demolition express' law.
