Albert Leaves the Town Hall
Wednesday 31 March 2010 - 12:46:02
Albert Schröter, the councillor for 'Nuevas Tecnologías' in the Town Hall of Mojácar, has quit the Government and passed to the 'Grupo Mixto' - a euphemism for 'unaligned opposition'. Albert, an Independent who was 4th on the PP list, announced his decision on the radio today, leaving mayoress Rosmari Cano with a tiny one-man majority of seven and the opposition with six seats.
However, the leading opposition politician, Gabriel Flores (was PSOE, then NGM, now maybe UPyD), says that Albert has made it clear he won't join any united front against his erstwhile boss.
Of course, there aren't many 'European' councillors in Almería - just Albert Schröter and Jim Simpson (PA) in Arboleas.

Village Parking and the Ring-road
Wednesday 31 March 2010 - 06:09:06
The Mojácar village parking lot, financed by the Government's put-em-to-work PlanE, will be opened to the public (and their automobiles) from tonight. The 'Plaza Rey Alavez' parking lot has room for 206 cars, according to Teleprensa. The upper level will be free and the Town Hall has apparently yet to decide about the lower level. The 1.4 million euro parking lot is located on the old 'Campo de Fútbol' which started out as the town cemetery, was the football field for several decades and was used in later years... as a parking lot.
There had been ideas in the past to link a parking lot down there with the village by an escalator or a lift, or even a stairway. For the time being, we shall continue to stagger up the Avenida de Paris, dodging buses, cars and small yappy dogs.
Regarding the last part of the Mojácar ring-road, which would go from the Gasolinera roundabout through the Paratá and removing (some small portion of the) traffic from the hopelessly congested beach-road, the Junta de Andalucía claims to have found some Limonium (a rare plant only found in Mojácar) on the planned route - so the whole thing has once again been shelved.
