The Rule of Law (Caparrós Style)
Monday 12 April 2010 - 16:07:21
Here is a short piece from the BBC Wales show that aired a couple of weeks ago and deals with the problems of innocent home-buyers and owners in Spain who later found their properties to be - nudge, nudge - illegal. There's a short from Marta Andreassen chiding the Spanish President Zippy and a second piece from 'Mr Bulldozer' (Luis Caparrós, the Junta de Andalucía's delegate in Almería for housing) explaining how lucky we all are to live under the Rule of Law.
Meanwhile, more homes in Albox are under threat of demolition (one source puts it at over 100 in the near future). All British owned, oddly.

Oh, and just to make the point, Helen and Len Prior are still living in their garage and pissing into a tin. I saw them last Thursday.

Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged
Monday 12 April 2010 - 14:33:21
Spain's most famous judge (he of the Pinochet in London circus a few years ago) is now under investigation and is going to trial shortly with a possible fine and twenty years of inhabilitation hanging over his head. Baltazar Garzón, sometime PSOE candidate (until he smelt the bacon), terror of the ETA crowd, implacable foe of fascism, warmongers, Jesus Gil and Berlusconi, is now in trouble after opening the wounds of the Civil War (anyone would think that Franco lost), neglecting to declare a few bob earned in Washington a couple of years ago and sticking a cassette recorder under the table when the corrupt players in the Gürtel case (PP pols and hangers on) were chatting, in clink, to their friends of the silk.
In short, it's all politics. Spain's judiciary have long been said to be under the thumb of the politicians. Do what they're told... willingly in most cases.
So we have a load of people demonstrating outside the court, in favour of Garzón. They say that this is a political witch-hunt. They are no doubt right. However, between them and the petition I received today (I've posted it below) there is one point that may have been lost. Are we saying that Garzón is above the Constitution? Are we asking for an 'indulto'? Are we, in fact, bringing politics here in front of the law of the land?.

Pound Down, More Likely!
Monday 12 April 2010 - 02:46:34
Will the Pound Sterling go up or down following the British election results? Which candidate would be best for us out here (in foreign parts)? With a strong government, would the Pound go up, with lots of Brits promptly abandoning the place and coming back to Spain, sheaves of cash in their hands and shouts of gimme gimme?
Not according to a man known for his avarice, greed and destruction. George Soros (who brought ruin to many thousands of Britons in 1992 as he scooped up one billion dollars through his murky trading techniques) is patrolling the herd once again, watching for the weak. Bloomberg: 'Billionaire investor George Soros said the next U.K. government after the May 6 election should decide whether to allow a further devaluation of the pound to rebalance the economy and assist the recovery'.
