The last one Pere Navarro was bad enough, with his fluorescent pajama tops and temporary and pointless 110 speed limit last year, but the new director of the DGT, the traffic soviet, is apparently even more extreme. 'We are considering dropping the alcohol limit to zero', says María Segui, adding that it was merely 'under study' and won't become law yet.
In case she's reading this: In Spain, most people live in the city, where there's a bar downstairs in the street. Where there are taxis, metro, buses and bicycle lanes. Where you are never far from where you want to go. There are many different routes home.
In the country, you have a longer way to go, no bus, taxi or metro and there's just the one road... heavily policed by the officially appointed and licensed highwaymen ('stand and deliver'). We also have a phenomenon called 'tourism', which is about all that's left around here...
