The Most Beautiful Towns in Spain
Sunday 15 July 2012 - 03:35:38
According to La Voz de Almería, Fondón, Laujar de Andarax, Mojácar, Sorbas, Vélez Blanco and Vélez Rubio are six Almerían towns that are part of a group called 'Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España'.
I'm not sure Mojácar can still be considered as a 'pretty town' after the treatment received by the various mayors we have endured since Franco's death. The village itself, which used to be the lodestone for the whole area, in now a mess after the remodeling of the fuente, the Plaza Nueva, the Castillo and Rosmari's Carpark; the closed-down Moresco eyesore and the pylons across the 'Valle de los Piramides'. After losing the Arco de Luciana, the old Indalo Hotel, the bougainvillea in the Time and Place Square. After losing its only bank and cash-point. After allowing some remarkably ugly commercial buildings and after letting the art museum at the fuente (another ugly building) slide into being just an indifferent municipal art gallery.
Perhaps they meant the beach.
The entire list of the 'Pueblos más bonitos de España' is on their website here.
I've put this story on Viva Almería forum if you want to comment...
