Good Ole Girls

Old time residents of Mojácar will remember a lady in the village who had a grocers shop which she called the 'Foodings'. She was widely known by foreigners and locals alike for shortchanging her customers and, for all we know to the contrary, is now very wealthy as a result of this. Today I went to buy something from her in her shop on the beach and was smilingly stung for a shilling. When I noticed, I have to say, my eyes misted up in frank admiration and nostalgia.
There's another one we call 'the Guapa Lady', who likes to gyp her clients of a few bob. When Mrs Rambeau remonstrated with her the other day, the Guapa Lady gave her back her correct change and disarmingly said 'I'm sorry, I forgot you weren't a tourist'.
Some things about Mojácar will never change.
