Funding for Observatory Dries Up
Friday 22 March 2013 - 13:18:21
Calar Alto is an astronomical observatory owned and operated jointly by the Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie in Heidelberg, Germany, and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía in Granada, Spain. It is located in Almería province on Calar Alto, a 2,168-meter high mountain in Sierra de Los Filabres (thanks to Wiki as always). You can see it on the high mountain on the right, a small white blob, as you speed towards our capital city to get your paperwork done.
But now the funding is drying up with the budget down by 75% from just five years ago. According to reports, they could even close down.
